Dentistry @68 are pleased to be a provider of Armourbite® Under Armour performance mouth wear- with patented technology for proven performance and an undeniable advantage over other types of mouth guard.
With prices starting from just £18.99 it really couldn’t be easier to protect one of the most vulnerable parts of your body from significant damage which could arise as the result of a sports related injury or accident.
Our mouth guards can be produced in a range of colours and designs- allowing you to customise it for personal preference. Choose your favourite colour, co-ordinate with your sports team or simply show solidarity for the football club you support!
With your mouth guard personally fitted for ultimate comfort you can rest assured that it’s up to 20% stronger, 20% more durable and it will also help to reduce impact- with the special Biteflex® technology absorbing excess energy.
It won’t come loose becoming a potential choking hazard- as some mouth guards can. With no effect on your ability to breathe or talk, you can go ahead and push yourself as hard as you need to- safe in the knowledge your teeth are protected in the best way possible.
Why wear a mouth guard?
It’s so important to protect your teeth and gums when participating in full-contact sports like boxing, hockey or rugby. Even with non-contact sports like skateboarding, skiing, ice skating or cricket the potential is still there to cause significant damage should you fall or be hit with a bat or ball.
Particularly for children a mouth guard is vitally important in helping to prevent significant injury which could cause potential problems with their oral health in the future. In fact, many dentists and orthodontists strongly recommend the use of mouth guards- with the majority calling for their mandatory use in all school children participating in school or club sports.
Likewise, many insurance companies will void a policy if a mouth guard is not worn- something that should be noted by professional sports players.
As well as the complete loss of a tooth or teeth a mouth guard will help to protect a tooth from damage or fracture. It will also protect the roots, gum and jaw and can often help to stop you from accidentally biting your tongue.
Tooth loss and injury in children
It is estimated that around a quarter of children will loose a front tooth at some point- with up to 39% of these injuries being sports related! Thanks to an increase in the popularity of contact sports this figure is likely to increase in the future. Perhaps unsurprisingly, boys are statistically more likely to lose a tooth than girls.
While some tooth damage is obvious, other trauma can be less noticeable- but could still result in issues further down the line. For example a tooth can be cracked in the root, resulting in an infection in the dental pulp which will require root canal treatment further down the line.
The best way to help prevent injury and protect your children’s teeth is to provide them with a good quality mouth guard and ensure that it is worn whenever appropriate.
Obviously as children get older you’ll have to rely on them choosing to wear the guard themselves- that’s where good education regarding the dangers of contact sports and personal customisation of a mouth guard can prove helpful.
