Dentures
17/10/2012 by Dental DesignDentures, otherwise known as false teeth, replace lost or missing teeth so that a person can enjoy a healthy diet and still retain a great smile. A complete or full denture replaces all of the natural teeth, whereas a Valplast partial denture fills in the spaces left by missing teeth.
Valplast partial dentures are flexible and adaptable to the constant movement in your mouth, whilst still staying strong and lightweight.
Replacing your missing teeth with either a full or partial denture is very good for your health and appearance as they help to support the rest of your face, so that your facial muscles do not begin to sag. Dentures can be made to closely match your natural teeth and could even improve your original smile!
When you first receive your dentures, eating may take a little practice, so you should start with soft foods which are cut into small pieces; as you become more used to your dentures you can add other foods until your diet is back to normal. Your speech may also be affected with dentures and pronouncing certain words could take practice; reading aloud could help your articulation.
When taking care of your dentures, always clean your dentures over a bowl of water or a towel in case you drop them, as they could break. When cleaning your dentures, the general rule is: brush, soak, brush. Brush your teeth using toothpaste and a tooth brush, then soak in an effervescent (fizzy denture cleaner and then brush again.
Your dentures should last several years if you treat them well, however they may need to be relined or re-made due to wear and tear or a change in the shape of your mouth. If you have missing teeth, speak to your dentist for information on which type of denture is best for you.
