Welcome to new patients at Dentistry@68
18/05/2015 by Dental DesignWhy should I visit the dentist regularly?
As our regular patients are well aware, visiting the dentist for a routine check-up is the best way to ensure your mouth stays healthy. Potential problems can be detected early meaning that they are likely to be less involved, uncomfortable and expensive in the future.
You should aim to visit your dentist around twice a year for check-ups (or as advised). They will check thoroughly for signs of cavities, gum disease and other changes which could indicate oral cancers.
It is also advised that you visit our hygienist around twice a year so that teeth can be cleaned, gums checked, problem areas can be pointed out and advice can be given on how to improve these.
We are always pleased to welcome new patients to our practice.
If you are interested in becoming a new patient- or you have a friend or family member that might like to join our practice please call us today or fill out our online request form:

New patients- what will happen at my first visit?
At your first appointment we will need to ask you about your general health and any medication you are taking. If you haven’t done so, you will be asked to fill out a dental history questionnaire and a medical history questionnaire (both are available on our website by following the link above). This will help us to get a clearer picture of your overall health, previous treatment and any medical conditions that could affect your teeth- now or in the future.
If you do have any particular problems with your mouth, gums or teeth them please point these out now.
We will fully examine your teeth, gums and mouth. This may involve the use of x-rays. Our standard dental appointments always include checks for the signs of gum disease and bone density. An oral cancer screening will also be done.
If required, the dentist will advise you on your diet, smoking, alcohol use and teeth cleaning habits if they are negatively affecting your oral health.
If you do require any further treatment this will be explained to you and a treatment plan will be put in place.
After your check up, the dentist will recommend how long you should leave until your next visit. Every patient is different and your needs will depend on a number of factors. Timings could range anywhere from three months to two years although it’s always recommend under 18’s visit the Dentist on an annual basis.
