Digital Radiography

The Vistascan is a modern, high resolution scanner for dental digital imaging, and enhances our ability to diagnose and treat our patients at Dentistry@68.

Digital x-rays expose the patient to around 80-90% less radiation compared to traditional methods. They are superior in quality and clarity, producing high resolution images in a very fast time. Even tiny imperfections in the teeth can be spotted, and the images can be manipulated to significantly aid diagnosis and assist with successful treatment. With digital, we can show you large images on a monitor, enabling you to better understand your need for treatment.

Digital radiographs are considered ‘green’, as they require no harsh chemicals for development and reduce the need for paper file storage. We can also adjust and retake if necessary, without the need for another appointment.

Digital Photography

We use digital SLR cameras in our practice – ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’.

This technology is very important for diagnosis, patient education, case presentation and portfolios, and virtual record documentation. It also allows for excellent communication between the dentist, the patient and the dental technician especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry.

Intraoral Cameras

An intraoral camera, a tiny video camera that looks like a pen, lets you see what we see inside your mouth, helping you understand your dental issues and treatment. It can also help us accurately view areas of the mouth that are otherwise hard to reach. The intraoral technique is completely pain free and uses no radiation.

The intraoral camera can be used to take high quality colour images of your teeth and gums, essential for giving a precise diagnosis. It allows us to see problems such as worn-out defective fillings, fractured teeth, decay, bleeding gums and plaque, and easily show you how this is affecting your oral health. Together, we can discuss your treatment plan for restoring your mouth to optimal health.

Air Abrasion

For minimally invasive dental care, we use the Aquacutt Quattro, a gentle alternative to a needle and drill.

The Aquacutt air abrasion technology allows us to prepare your tooth for many different treatments without using a drill. It is ideal for performing children’s dentistry and cosmetic dentistry in a considerate and minimally invasive way. It involves:

  • no direct contact with the tooth structure
  • no vibration
  • no traditional turbine noise
  • no heat generation or smell
  • greatly reduced need for injections of local anaesthesia

The Aquacutt Quattro is a great attribute to our dental care, especially for its assistance in conservative dentistry. It is also very effective for the removal of tooth stains.

Jaw/Bite Device

The Denar® Cadiax® Compact-2 is a state-of-the-art diagnostic instrument that provides a greater understanding and analysis of your jaw movements. It enables us to ensure your precise natural anatomy is considered and built into laboratory produced restorations for a superior fit, harmony and function.

It is of particular use in more complex and comprehensive dental restorative procedures:

  • A dental articulator, programmed accordingly to the individual patient’s chewing pattern, allows the dental technician to reproduce functional chewing surfaces corresponding to the natural dentition
  • More predictable restorations are produced
  • Functional disorders resulting from dental treatment not in harmony with the patient’s bite pattern can be avoided

Laser Technology

At Dentistry@68, we use QuickLase, a soft tissue diode laser, to aid our treatment. There are many applications for the use of a soft tissue laser in dentistry, from periodontal treatment and gum related surgery through to the treatment of mouth ulcers, frenectomies and assistance in accurate impression taking. They are also particularly useful in many cosmetic dental procedures where gum reshaping or recontouring is required.

Some of the major benefits associated with laser dentistry include:

  • Procedures performed using soft tissue dental lasers may not require sutures (stitches)
  • Certain laser dentistry procedures do not require anaesthesia
  • Laser dentistry minimises bleeding because the high-energy light beam aids in the clotting (coagulation) of exposed blood vessels, thus inhibiting blood loss
  • Bacterial infections are minimised because the high-energy beam sterilises the area being worked on
  • Damage to surrounding tissue is minimised
  • Wounds heal faster and tissues can be regenerated
  • There is no noise or vibration
