After graduating from the University of Bristol Dental School in 1999, Richie started his dental career in Bournemouth. He worked in a busy NHS practice and also alongside a local root canal specialist. He joined the Wimborne Road Dental Practice in 2002 and became a principal partner in 2004. He has been central in practice development since then, and was instrumental in the practice re-branding to Dentistry@68.

In 2005, Richie achieved a diploma in postgraduate dental studies from the University of Bristol and is committed to continual professional development within dentistry. He is also a member of the British Dental Association. Richie has successfully completed a three-year training programme in the field of Occlusal Dentistry, run by Stockport Dental Seminars (SDS) and the International Partnership for the Study of Occlusion (IPSO). Both the dental practice and Richie have been affiliated with the SDS-IPSO occlusal training program since 2005. Richie is a member of the British Society of Occlusal Studies.

Richie has a particular interest in cosmetic dentistry, smile design, and implant restoration. He is a full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) and is a certified provider of both the Inman Aligner and Cfast – revolutionary orthodontic appliances that straighten teeth.

As an extension to the field of cosmetic dentistry and smile design, Richie has completed advanced training in the field of non-surgical facial aesthetics at the Dr. Bob Khanna training institute and bespoke training with Dr. Tim Eldridge, the clinical director at myFACE.

He is a member of the International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics (IAAFA). Medical liability insurance for the practice’s non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments is provided by Hamilton Fraser Cosmetic Insurance.

Richie is married with a young son and daughter and lives on the Isle of Purbeck.

Christopher Thickett

Chris graduated from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2008 and also holds a degree in Biomedical Science. He was awarded the Richard Gorham Shield by the Wessex branch of the British Dental Association in 2009.

Since joining Dentistry@68, Chris has become a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, Royal College of Surgeons, England in 2012. He gained a diploma in postgraduate dental studies from the University of Bristol. In 2014, he also completed a postgraduate course in Cosmetic and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry. Chris enjoys all aspects of dentistry and is enthusiastic about promoting a preventative approach to dental care and helping patients achieve healthy mouths.

He continues to regularly attend dental courses to keep up to date with current practice. He grew up in Dorset and enjoys swimming and cycling in the area.

Dr. Magdalena Owen graduated from Medical University with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD) in 1998. She furthered her knowledge of various aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry by completing a four-year postgraduate programme at King’s College London and the University of London. She graduated in 2011 with a Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics degree.

After the successful completion of her degree, Magdalena was offered a position of a marker for the MSC in Aesthetic Dentistry postgraduate programme at King’s College London. Her area of expertise included teeth whitening and facial aesthetic treatments.

Over the years, Magdalena became further involved in the postgraduate education for dentists at King’s College London. She is now an examiner for the MSc in Aesthetic Dentistry postgraduate programme and a supervisor for the final year projects for the M.Clin.Dent. (Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics) programme at King’s College London. Magdalena also regularly assists on CPD courses at LonDEC (London Dental Education Centre).

In addition to widening her portfolio of dental treatments, Magdalena has also developed a special interest in aesthetic medicine. She has completed various advanced and prestigious courses and she is now an insured and experienced practitioner in non-surgical aesthetic skin treatments. She possesses advanced certificates in anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, dermaroller, skinboosters, mesotherapy, chemical peels, and the use of cosmeceuticals.

Magdalena is committed to providing you with the very best professional and personalised service to ensure a complete understanding of your requirements. As a medical professional, she possesses an extended knowledge of facial anatomy and is competent in using local anaesthetics to perform most treatments virtually pain-free. Extensive experience in various injecting techniques results in treatments being provided with not only minimal discomfort but also great results.

Sarah Buckley

Sarah Buckley qualified as a dentist from the University of Bristol in 2010. Following her successful examination, she became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MFGDP) in 2012. She later achieved membership in primary dental care from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Sarah has over a decade of experience in private practice in Bristol and 5 years in Oral Surgery at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital before relocating back home to Poole with her family. She has gained a reputation for successfully treating many nervous patients and has the qualifications to provide intravenous and inhalation sedation.

Committed to continuous learning, Sarah obtained an MSc in Advanced Dental Practice from Birmingham University in 2019, earning distinction, and was awarded the professors’ prize for consistent excellence. Her further education includes composite and cosmetic dentistry courses, Harley Street facial aesthetics, and a year-long Anxiety Control & Conscious Sedation diploma.

When not practicing dentistry, Sarah enjoys a busy family life with her husband, twin boys, and little girl. She is a keen netball player and amateur cross-fitter.

Briony Wood qualified as a dental surgeon in 1990 from University College, London. She has over 30 years of general practice experience and has attended multiple postgraduate courses. She has also obtained a Certificate in Restorative Dentistry from the Eastman Dental Hospital, London, a Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies from the University of Bristol, and a Diploma of Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons, London.

Briony has also been a vocational trainer for newly qualified dentists acting as their mentor and has been a dental practice owner and principal dentist.

Briony also works for the out-of-hours emergency service, The 247 Dentist, hosted here at the practice when we are closed.

She is a mum to four grown-up children and in her spare, she time likes to ski, swim, run, and cycle. She has also recently taken up beekeeping and gardening.

Hygienists

Clare qualified from the University of Portsmouth in 2012 with a combined honours degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. She joined the practice in January 2016.

Clare places a lot of focus on prevention of oral diseases and will work closely with you to help establish an achievable oral hygiene routine at home. She has a particular interest in treating nervous and anxious patients, helping them to overcome dental phobia.

In her spare time, Clare is a busy mum of two. She loves to travel and enjoys swimming and keeping fit.

Lisa qualified as a dental hygienist in 1992 at King’s College London. She joined the practice permanently in April 2017 after providing a locum service for us.

She has worked in a specialist periodontal clinic for 30 years, helping patients to keep their teeth for as long as possible. She treats people how she would like to be treated and helps nervous patients feel more relaxed. She enjoys motivating patients to gain optimal oral health.

Lisa enjoys spending family time with her husband and two children, going to the gym, snowboarding and water sports.

Josie graduated in 2015 from the University Of Portsmouth and achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. She joined the practice in April 2016.

Josie has a passion for treating periodontitis and also works alongside periodontal specialist, Saffina Nanji, at Charminster House Dental Practice. Josie enjoys keeping her knowledge up to date with Continued Professional Development courses.

In 2018, Josie joined the charity Dentaid. She raised donations and travelled to Cambodia where she met other dental professionals to help provide access to dentistry across the country. She dedicated her own time for 3 weeks and provided treatment, education and support for children in desperate need.

Josie is married to Matt and they like to travel, renovate and enjoy the outdoors.

Noelle proudly qualified from the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy in 2017 as a hygiene therapist. She joined the team here at Dentistry@68 in 2018.

Previously Noelle worked locally as a dental nurse before qualifying as a hygienist and has gained experience in schools, care homes, hospital settings and special care dentistry.

Noelle particularly enjoys treating children, older people or dentally anxious patients and gaining their trust. She ensures that every patient she treats receives a high standard of care, delivered with a friendly, professional approach.

In her own time, Noelle enjoys exploring the great outdoors, travelling, and spending time with her young family.

Chloe qualified from the University of Portsmouth in 2021 with a First Class Honours Degree in Dental Hygiene and joined the practice later the same year.

Chloe is extremely passionate about her role within the dental team. She endeavours to engage with patients to educate and motivate effectual oral hygiene. She enjoys working interprofessionally within and beyond the dental team, and she believes by doing so this contributes to better treatment outcomes. Patient-centred care is her utmost priority, and she enjoys building rapport with her patients.

Outside of work, Chloe enjoys being part of a Cheerleading team who recently placed 4th in the World Cheerleading Championships and spending time with her French Bulldog, Rocco.

Management

Mel Mallan

Mel started as a trainee dental nurse in 1998 and qualified in 2000 with the National Certificate in Dental Nursing. She joined the practice in 2003 and went on to achieve an NVQ in Team Leading and the Radiography for Dental Nurses Certificate in 2012. The following year, Mel completed an NVQ in Business Administration and went on to become Assistant Manager that same year.

Mel enjoyed working as a dental nurse and gained 15 years of dental knowledge and experience, before becoming more interested in the business and the team management of the practice behind the scenes.

Mel became Acting Practice Manager in 2015, covering Annabel during her maternity leave and later the following year became joint Practice Manager alongside Annabel. Mel enjoys the role and looking after the team is her favourite part.

Mel lives locally with her husband, two sons and little dog, and as a family they enjoy camping, dog walking and days out.

Annabel began her career as a Trainee Dental Nurse in a practice in Blandford in 1998. She joined The Wimborne Road Dental Practice in 2000 and qualified with the National Certificate in Dental Nursing later that year.

Annabel enjoyed working as a dental nurse and over the years gained experience and knowledge in many areas of dentistry.

In 2007, Annabel become Nurse Team Leader, later becoming Assistant Manager and then Practice Manager in 2010. Annabel enjoys the day-to-day challenges the role brings and keeping up-to-date with current legislation.

Away from the practice, Annabel enjoys taking part in fitness classes, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Annabel lives with her husband in north Dorset.

Dental nurses

Agi joined the practice in 2022 after qualifying with a Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing in March 2021.

Agi enjoys all aspects of dental nursing and you may often see her helping out at reception.

Outside of work, Agi enjoys caring for her pet cats and rabbits, spending time with her family, and preparing to welcome her new baby in September 2024.

Jess qualified in 2020 with a Diploma in Dental Nursing. Jess joined the team just as we were reopening the practice after the Covid pandemic.

Jess enjoys interacting with patients and is fully trained in carrying out 3D scans for our patients. Her favourite part of her job is being part of a great team and helping to transform patient smiles.

Outside of work, Jess loves to be active and enjoys walking, hiking, and cycling. She also loves socialising with friends and family.

Kayleigh joined the team in April 2014, while she was studying at Bournemouth & Poole College for a Diploma in Dental Nursing. She went on to qualify in November 2014. Since then, Kayleigh has also completed a post graduate qualification in Radiography for Dental Nurses.

Kayleigh is an experienced nurse and enjoys keeping up to date, and dealing with, compliance with the latest dental regulations and supporting our nursing team with Continuing Professional Development.

In her own time, Kayleigh enjoys socialising with friends and days out. Kayleigh is also an avid bird watcher and amateur photographer.

Outside of work, Sarah is a busy mum and enjoys travelling, camping and looking after her small flock of sheep and 2 alpacas which keep her busy!

Deborah has worked at the practice for over 20 years and qualified back in 2003. She has acquired a vast knowledge of all dental procedures including cosmetic procedures and implants.

Deborah enjoys helping nervous and anxious patients feel more relaxed and reassured for their appointments.

Outside of work, Deborah enjoys being active, cycling and sailing in Poole Harbour. She is also Dinghy Captain for Lilliput Sailing Club. Deborah also enjoys spending time with her 2 grandchildren.
